Birthday Buddy Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 30, 2026
Birthday Buddy lets you create birthday greetings, optionally record a voice message, customize a cake with a photo, and share a temporary greeting link. We do not require an account.
Information the app handles
- Greeting content. Names, messages, cake choices, and appearance settings are stored on your device.
- Optional microphone recording. The app asks for microphone permission only when you choose to record a voice message. Recordings remain on your device unless you choose to include one in a shared greeting.
- Shared greetings. If you choose “Share as a link,” the recipient name, sender name, message, cake configuration, and any attached voice recording are sent to our Vercel-hosted service to create the link. Anyone with the link can listen to an attached recording. Shared greetings are designed to expire after 7 days.
- Optional letter backup. If you enable backup in the Library, up to 20 letters are stored for 90 days after the last synchronization. Recordings are not backed up. Access requires your private recovery key; anyone with this key can read and synchronize your backed-up letters. Deletions are synchronized when you reconnect.
- Abuse prevention. When a link is created, our service processes a pseudonymous app-install identifier, device identifier, and a one-way hashed network identifier to enforce the link limit and protect the service from abuse. We do not create user profiles from these values.
Advertising
The Android app uses Google AdMob to show ads, including rewarded ads that can unlock additional share-link creation. Google and its advertising partners may process device identifiers, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, app interaction data, and diagnostic information to serve, measure, and prevent fraud in ads. Google’s handling is described in the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
How information is used
We use the information above only to provide greeting creation, playback, temporary sharing, service security, link-limit enforcement, and advertising. We do not sell greeting content or use it for targeted advertising ourselves.
Sharing, moderation, and retention
A shared greeting is accessible to anyone with its link until it expires. Do not include information you do not want a recipient to see. Public links prohibit sexual content, nudity, graphic violence, threats, and hateful content. Each greeting page includes a report control; a report removes the greeting immediately. Greeting data stored only on your device remains there until you remove it or uninstall the app. Server-hosted shared greeting data is deleted when its 7-day lifetime ends. Security and quota records are retained only as long as needed to enforce the applicable limit.
Permissions and choices
You can decline microphone or photo access and still use the rest of the app. You can change granted permissions in your device settings. The app does not request camera, contacts, precise location, or health-data access.
Children
Birthday Buddy is not directed to children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information through a shared greeting, contact us through the developer contact details on the app’s Google Play listing.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the app changes. The current version is always available at this page. For privacy questions, use the developer contact details shown on the Birthday Buddy Google Play listing.
